by Joby on Dec.14, 2008, under WOD
With the Holidays and New Year coming up, its tempting to jump at the latest fitness fad or fat-burning gadget. There are so many claims out there that suggests that you can eat whatever you want as long as you take this magic pill or this product actually contracts your muscles for you while you relax and watch TV. I mean really, whats better than a product that gives six-pack abs with absolutely no work? Maybe one that works? Don’t try to satisfy your New Years resolution with the new Thigh Blaster or weight loss supplement. There is no shortcut to good health, your workouts should be hard. Check out the Crossfit web page for some workout ideas that will get you fit fast!
“If you don’t get a little nervous before your workout, its probably not hard enough!”

Common Knowledge
by Joby on Dec.08, 2008, under WOD
Have you ever heard the phrase “its common knowledge”? You generally find this phrase reverberating off the walls of your Globogym. What exactly does this phrase mean? It may be hard to define exactly so I’ll give some examples of what may be considered common knowledge in the fitness industry…
It is common knowledge that squatting below parallel is detrimental to knee health.
It is common knowledge that deadlifting hurts your back and should only be performed by elite athletes.
It is common knowledge that low intensity aerobic exercise in the “fat burning zone” is the best way to lose weight.
It is common knowledge that sit-ups are bad for the L-spine and should be substituted with crunches.
It is common knowledge that overhead lifting induces capsulitis and other soft tissue problems.
“Common knowledge” can be generally be equated with “widely accepted,” but neither of these phrases imply “results based”. Results based knowledge is something truely valuable and attainable by anyone willing to test a hypothesis. Is your training based on results or common knowledge? Don’t succumb to conventional wisdom, some of the greatest men and women in history have been made famous by their unorthodox ideas.
Function
by Joby on Dec.05, 2008, under WOD
This blog’s primary function as of now will be a sort of workout log. I’m thinking of it as a mach affiliate page and I want to experiment with design and media. As soon as I get the go ahead from the people I’m helping right now, I’ll try to post some pictures and workouts so their progress can be seen. Hopefully this will one day be turned into a full fleged affiliate page with links to fees, scheduling and pictures of a new facility!

~This blog was ceated to aid in the growth of functional fitness.
I was told about Crossfit about 1 year ago by a buddy of mine who had completed his first “Fran”. After hearing his description of the intensity of the workout and the limited time it took, I had to try it. One sip of the “koolaid” as they call it and I’ve been lapping it up ever since.
